AN armed robber threatened staff at a Runcorn shop.

The man wielded a knife as he approached the counter of a shop in Greenway Road and demanded cash.

When a member of staff refused, he tried to steal money from the till but was unsuccessful and fled empty handed.

The attempted robbery happened at 7.15pm on Monday, July 27.

Detectives today appealed for information.

The offender is described as a white man, very slim, approximately 5ft 6ins tall and in his 20s.

He was wearing a blue quilted hooded top with another grey top underneath and had his face half covered.

He was wearing gloves, blue jeans and black Adidas Trainers.

The man was seen leaving on a silver mountain bike towards the train station.
