NEW interactive police contact points are being installed in Widnes and Runcorn.

It follows a trial by Cheshire Constabulary to enable people to get help, advice and report crimes at the touch of a button.

The machines were installed outside police stations across the county.

Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, John Dwyer said: "Contact points ensure that the constabulary is delivering on its commitment to support communities by being accessible in many different ways.

"I stated in my police and crime plan that I would support new technology and introduce as many ways as possible for people to contact the police.

“Contact points are an important extension to the services currently offered to members of the public."

The kiosks offer a 24-hour service, seven days a week, including a direct telephone line and enables call takers to video link the person using the contact point.
