CHILDREN are learning about the dangers of the so-called ‘silent killer’ carbon monoxide in the classroom.
Crusading Runcorn mum Lynn Griffiths has secured funding from Halton Housing Trust to develop an educational pilot project for primary and secondary schools.
She has been campaigning since her family was poisoned 16 years ago due to a blocked flue from the fire in the living room of their former home.
She set up a charity, CO Awareness in 2005.
Pupils at Halton Lodge Primary School were the first to receive the new presentation.
Lynn teamed up with school improvement officer, Lynn McCann to put the programme together.
Mum-of-four Lynn, aged 56, of Sheridan Way, Sandymoor, said: “It was fantastic.
“The children created 30 drawings to highlight the dangers, such as not taking barbecues into tents and caravans and the need to keep homes ventilated.
“I’m hoping we can roll this programme out nationally.”
Head teacher Anthony Hildrup said: “I think it’s an excellent idea.
“The children seemed very engaged and learnt a lot from it.
“They were talking about it afterwards so they understood all the key messages.”
