WITH regards to the letter in last week’s World about nuisance calls: We sing to them until they hang up (usually a good power ballad!).
My sister tells them she’s auditioning for the X Factor and asks if they would like to hear her song choice, then sings before they get a chance to answer.
Or if they ask for a specific person/home owner, we say ‘I’ll just go and get him/her for you’, then leave the phone on the side and go back to doing what we were doing before the call, checking occasionally to see if they’ve given up and hung up yet.
Or my sister is really good at playing dumb and when asked questions like ‘who is you electricity provider?’, she will reply with ‘the plug sockets’!
They all give up eventually.
We don’t get near as many calls anymore. Shame really cos we find them quite entertaining!
