TWO second-half goals from Chris Lomax saw Runcorn Linnets come from behind to defeat Glossop North End at the Millbank to maintain their 100 per cent record for the new season.

Linnets, seeking a third consecutive win following the midweek 3-1 beating of Bootle, had the early chances in a match they dominated.

Matt Cross’ 35-yard shot came close, before Runcorn were contentiously denied after a scramble from a corner when it was deemed the ball did not cross the line.

And just to compound Runcorn’s frustration, seconds later Thomas Bailey put Glossop ahead at the other end from the counter.

Linnets continued to look the more dangerous but the visitors went in ahead at the break.

Further frustration followed just after the re-start as the final touch continually evaded the home side.

And keeper Andy Robertson did well to prevent Bailey picking up a second goal, with Glossop also failing to capitalise on the rebound.

The equaliser finally came on 60 minutes, when Martin Crowder’s lengthy throw-in found Chris Lomax, who finished deftly.

Mark Houghton went agonisingly close to putting Runcorn ahead, as the hosts pressed for the win.

And from Danny Hand's pass, Lomax's low shot was drilled home to give Runcorn the lead.

Glossop tried desperately for a late equaliser but Runcorn held on for the deserved win.

Runcorn: Robertson, Hand, Crowder, Burke, Tomlinson, Ellison, Wade (Thompson), Cross, Hickey, Houghton, Lomax (Kennedy).
