I am fortunate enough to be the chairman of the Transformation Trust, a children’s charity which recently celebrated its first birthday at The O2 arena in London.
This special occasion was marked with a fantastic end-of-term party attended by around 12,000 school pupils from across the country, including national award winners from Widnes.
The event was held in July and pupils from The Bankfield School were presented with their award in the trust’s young designer of the year competition on stage, by Olympian Sir Steve Redgrave, to cheers from the excited audience.
This competition was a unique way of showcasing the creativity and individual talents of pupils everywhere.
The trust has already raised more than £2 million and is helping young people, mostly from deprived areas, to develop self-confidence, skills and unlock hidden talents by giving them free access to a range of after school activities, usually only available in the independent sector.
So as we celebrate a year of success, which has seen so many young people benefit, I look forward to the future and more children being given the opportunities that the trust-funded projects provides. SIR DAVID bELL, CHAIRMAN The Transformation Trust
