So local Lib Dems Trevor Higginson and Mike Hodgekinson support the cuts to Halton’s BSF programme do they? (World July 15 & 22) Strange that I’ve never heard that before in the local news or any of their election leaflets? So Labour is really to blame? What utter rubbish.
The coalition’s secretary of state for education claims his Government’s is determined to make opportunity more equal and help the most disadvantaged pupils.
How can the MPs who supported the BSF cuts reconcile the above claims with what they have just done to Halton?
Halton is the second smallest unitary council in England, which serves the country's 30th most deprived area. Yet it received the worst cuts to the BSF programme in the north west.
How does this bring any benefit to the disadvantaged? Is this the ‘fairness’ the Lib Dems claimed to represent in the elections?
Halton children and the wider community have been robbed of state of the art school buildings which can have a major impact on learning and wider community use.
Despite the money being there, the coalition Government chose, for ideological resaons, to make the cuts so they can fund so-called ‘free schools’. Roll on the next elections and the opportunity to punish both the ‘Nasty party’ and their new friends the ‘Fib Dems’. The cancellation of the BSF programme will be a legacy local representatives of both these parties will regret for many years to come.
