I recently visited the new Wilkinsons Store in Widnes with my 11-year-old daughter as she wanted to buy a new fountain pen as the children at her primary school are required to use them.
However, I was totally astounded when she came back from the till empty handed as the assiatant refused to serve her with it.
When I asked her the reason why, I was told it was because ‘It had a sharp point on the end’.
I then offered to buy the pen myself but was told that I couldn’t as I would give it to my daughter!
What on earth is the world coming to when we can’t even be trusted to buy a pen without the fear that we may try to stab somebody with it?
I understand the need for laws on young people buying knives but banning children from buying a fountain pen is taking it too far.
