Relief road could have prev ented need for roundabout

MAY I, through your newspaper, give my suggestion on the traffic problems in Widnes town centre.

I wrote to the town’s engineering deparment more than 10 years ago asking for a relief road to be opened at the roundabout at the junction of Bradley Way and Green Oaks Way. An exit road on to the A557 Widnes Eastern Expressway would solve most of the traffic delays.

If you leave the Morrisons/market car park you are asked to turn left and travel around this roundabout to then join traffic queuing at the improved roundabout by the KFC/Asda exit.

If this relief road had been put in place many years ago like I asked there would have been no need for the vast amount of revenue spent on the new gyratory roundabout on the Eastern Expressway/Warrington Road junction.

Let us hope that this letter will wake up the council to the needs of the town before too long. Widnes and Runcorn are great towns for shopping and it’s still free to park.

Lots of people I have spoken to travel quite a way to shop in our towns.
