FIDDLER’S Ferry Power station recently had an open day to explain its nitrogen oxide reduction plant.
Under the European ‘Large Combustion Plant’ directive, power stations have to reduce their nitrogen oxide levels, or close down by 2015.
Power stations are choosing to close down instead of following Fiddler’s Ferry’s example. Since the present nuclear power programme is coming to an end, this leaves Britain with an energy crisis.
Governments have known for years about the lifetime of the nuclear power stations, and which fossil fuel power stations will close by 2015, but they did nothing to correct the energy gap.
I hope whoever wins the election they halt the nuclear mistake this Government is making.
