Council should care about residents over developers

WITH regards to the letter in the World (February 17) and the comments on the road changes by Aldi and the new M&S, they seem to be spending money altering the roads at that junction with no benefit to the flow of traffic.

Clearly the council is more interested in courting developers than caring about the residents of Widnes.

It would appear they are attempting to build an out of town shopping experience for people from Liverpool and surrounding areas to have a day out. We do not have the infrastructure to take the traffic.

I read the other week they are looking to allow Tesco or Sainsbury’s to develop the old B&Q site into a 24-hour store with 600 parking places – surely not, it must have been an early April fool’s joke.

How do they intend to manage the traffic flow that will also be in this already over congested area, if this mad scheme comes off?

We need another food store like a hole in the head.

We need to stop these plans now.
