I MUST thank the Tory parliamentary candidate for highlighting Labour’s policy of free off-peak bus travel for pensioners.
Voters only need to remember the past experience of a Tory Government to decide who to trust with their free bus pass!
He claims the Labour Party plans to cut disability living and attendance allowances for the over 65s, wrecking their chances of living independently.
This is completely irresponsible because health secretary Andy Burnham has made it clear that those receiving these benefits will be protected and there will be no cash losers.
It is also a bit rich for the candidate of the party that introduced VAT on fuel in the 1990s and has voted against Labour’s winter fuel allowance – increased over the past two winters to £250 and £400 for those aged over 80, benefiting thousands of Halton pensioners – to now claim these benefits are safe in their hands.
