Roundabout alteration is driving me round the bend

10:50am Tuesday 23rd February 2010

What on earth is Halton Council doing with the roundabout near the new M&S at Widnes Shopping Park?

One of your readers commented two weeks ago about the congestion which builds up on Saturdays between Morrisons and Asda. I was delighted to see workmen making alterations during the week at the junction from Ashley Way leading to Lugsdale Road.

However, my excitement was short lived when I ended up in yet another big long queue on Saturday, but this time on the by-pass.

It seems they have changed the priority and put new ‘give way’ signs in place.

Instead of improving traffic flow, it resulted in a long tailback of cars along Ashley Way.

The stream of shoppers from Morrisons and Widnes market is so busy, drivers struggled to get a break in the traffic to get on to the roundabout.

We are now only four weeks away from these wonderful new shops opening.

Surely our highway engineers can come up with a better solution?

Otherwise we will drive away thousands of shoppers expected to come to Widnes to see our big new shopping complex.
