A SPECIAL meeting of the Halton health scrutiny board was called on September 3 with an invitation to Catherine Beardshaw, chief executive of the trust and Allan Massey, chairman of the trust, to find out why the hospital bus is no longer free to use.
The board also wanted to clear up two statements made by Catherine Beardshaw at the last trust meeting when she said the main reason for introducing a charge was that residents from Halton were using the free bus to shop in Warrington.
Also that Halton Council was aware of the decision and made no objections.
Both of these statements were withdrawn at the meeting. Elected members were relieved that the statements had been withdrawn, but were disappointed that the chief executive of Warrington and Halton Foundation Trust felt that the opinions of elected members of Halton and its constituents opinions seemingly counted for nothing.
As elected members we very strongly object to the new charge and to the dismissive way Halton residents have been treated when taking the decision CLLR ELLEN CARGILL Chairman Halton Health Scrutiny Board Runcorn
