FOLLOWING the meeting of Halton Borough Council this week, I wondered if Council Leader, Clr Tony McDermott could explain something to me and the residents of Halton and Warrington.
Following a question put by Lib Dem Clr Mike Hodgkinson, as to why plans to de-link the existing Silver Jubilee Bridge were not to be considered by the public enquiry, his executive board member, Clr Rob Pohill, stated that de-linking was only required if the bridge was to go ahead.
If there is no bridge, then de-linking will not be required, and the public inquiry will decide this.
Surely then, the same principle applies to the application to toll the Silver Jubilee Bridge. You only need to toll it if the Mersey Gateway goes ahead, so why did you apply to charge a toll on the existing bridge before the public inquiry in May?
