I FOUND it ironic that in the April 15 issue there was a picture of a lamb, beneath the article of Mr Darling and Mr Twigg, rambling on about how important it was for the people of Halton to have a new toll bridge.
They were expressing how concerned they were about the people suffering because of the credit crunch and how this new bridge would help the problem.
But what about the poor lambs that live in Halton that have already been led to the slaughter – the low-paid who will be forced to pay up to three pounds each way to cross a toll bridge on the way to work? Where will they find the extra £30 per week?
The local Labour Party has sold its political soul by forcing a toll bridge on its constituency.
It has already decided to prevent them from using the free jubilee bridge giving them no choice but to pay, which must be the greatest evil ever imposed by any political party – dismissing free use of an already free bridge with no regard to the hardship this will cause the people who elected them and who believed this would always remain a free bridge.
Perhaps I am being unfair. We can always voice our concerns at the public meeting in May – except the public will not be allowed to speak.
Perhaps if justice is done they will enjoy the political oblivion enjoyed by the Thatcher government that also dismissed the feelings of the people they represented.
As far as business is concerned, is there not already a free Mersey gateway called the Thelwall bypass on the M6?
