In reply to the comments from Mike Lucas regarding doorstep donations being 25 per cent down this year (World, July 28) the reason is that a dirty white transit van is going around Widnes stealing the donations from our doorsteps before genuine collectors can get around.

In reply to Trevor Higginson (Is this the end of democracy?) – it does not surprise the English Radical Alliance that Widnes’ Labour-dominated Halton Council acts in an unaccountable way. The recently ousted Labour Government used to operate in exactly the same manner.
