Post Office closures not an EU issue

11:22am Friday 27th June 2008

I KEEP reading in newspapers that UKIP maintain that Post Office Closures are down to EU Directive 88/89 of the Treaty of Amsterdam This is absolute nonsense. Post Office closures have nothing to do with the EU but are down to Member States.

Girls should do the right thing

11:20am Friday 27th June 2008

THROUGH your paper I would like to appeal to the two girls who were with the two lads who beat up my grandson on May 23 at around 8pm.

Do you know where your children are at night?

9:54am Wednesday 25th June 2008

DO parents know where their children are anymore or, moreover, do they even care? I ask this because at around 7.30pm one Wednesday night a parent dropped their kids (and friends) off for an overnight ‘fishing trip’ on the canal – and then I suppose they went home and had a nice relaxing evening in front of the television, maybe with a hot cup of tea. Meanwhile, the residents who live near the canal were kept up till around 2.30pm, having their gardens invaded, car tyres let down and patio furniture nicked! I know this because I saw them do it – and had my tyres let down to boot. The police were called, but to no avail – they drove down, turned around and drove off! They even failed to get to the canal in time the next day to see the kids, confronted by angry neighbours, throw the stolen items into the canal and leg it! But, what were the parents up to? Do they not worry that their children are out all night, doing God knows what to God knows whom? As a parent myself, I think these parents need teaching a lesson – maybe one that they can in turn pass on to their own children? I hope at least they have the sense to read the local paper and have a good long think.

New bridge will be bad for the environment

11:39am Wednesday 18th June 2008

IT is unfortunate that Halton Borough Council and the Mersey Gateway executive board are intent on building a second Mersey crossing at great expense to the taxpayer and to our environment.

Surely we are as important as Everton?

11:53am Wednesday 18th June 2008

IT looks as though the proposed move to Kirkby by Everton FC will be taken to a public inquiry by the MPs involved, in the interests of their constituents.

Halton Pride?

12:46pm Friday 13th June 2008

IN response to the recently-crowned Miss Halton-Pride, I'm sure the winner is a lovely, talented young woman.
