FOLLOWING the sudden closure of The Hollies disability care home on Halton Brook Avenue in Runcorn, I want to express my concern at the way vulnerable residents are being treated.

Families were left in the same dilemma only seven months ago when another Runcorn care home Harbour Close, which was also run by Scope, shut down.

We were given just eight days’ notice to find a new home for my sister Ruth, who has had cerebral palsy since birth and is gravely disabled.

Scope is no longer in the business of providing care homes.

It wants the disabled reintegrated into society, but for people like my sister this is never going to happen.

Staff at Harbour Close had been unfailing in their loving care for all the residents.

Ruth loved the people who took care of her and they loved her back.

The trauma of leaving her home, where she was settled for eight years, has been immense.

In an appalling short period of time yet more vulnerable residents have been let down.

My heart goes out to the families of people living at The Hollies, who were given only a few weeks to rehome their loved ones.

The short time relatives are given to find alternative accommodation is breathtakingly cynical.

These vulnerable residents are voiceless and the effect on families is terrible.
