THE Sergeant Thomas Mottershead statue appeal would like to thank Martin McCoy from open spaces at Halton Council for applying for a grant from WREN (Waste Recycling Environment Ltd).
He was successful in the bid and the appeal was awarded £46,200.
We must stress this only covers part of the costs for the appeal – we still need another £20,000 by August.
The statue must be at no cost to the ratepayers of Halton, which means the appeal relies on fundraising and donations.
The WREN grant was the only one the appeal was successful with.
We would like to thank 310 (Widnes) Squadron Air Cadets, Richard Bamber and Anthony’s Travel, Richard Munson from Widnes Vikings and Jayne Metcalfe from Asda for all their hard work in backing the appeal.
But a special thank you goes to everyone who has donated to the appeal.
With everyone’s help, we can do it.
It is hoped the statue will be unveiled on April 1, 2018, the centenary of the formation of the RAF.
