I REGULARLY see children riding in supermarket trolleys with dirty outdoor shoes in contact with the base of the trolley.

This should never be allowed.

Who wants to put their food among possible contamination?

Whenever I have mentioned my objections to managers they have made it clear that they are afraid to tackle such inconsiderate customers, and indeed have instructed staff not to do so for fear of ‘getting a mouthful in return’.

I pointed out to one local manager that if he does nothing about this problem he is condoning it.

He made the excuse that there are notices displayed, but these are only regarding physical danger to children.

Hygiene is not mentioned and the notices are not prominently and effectively displayed.

‘Alright’, he said.

No, it is not alright at all.

Consequently we are all liable to picking up on our food anything which may have been trodden in.

Most trolleys must be contaminated and I don’t know of any evidence of them ever being cleaned.
