I WAS shopping at Aldi in Widnes on Friday, September 30, when I found a brown leather purse.

It was lying on top of some leggings and stood out because it looked a bit weather beaten.

It had quite a bit of money in it and some cards.

I gave it to the assistant manageress and she took my name and telephone number and said she would put it in the safe.

A short while later she came looking for me in the store and said there had been a disturbance at the till when a woman claimed she’d had her purse stolen.

Staff reassured her and it turned out the purse I had found belonged to her.

They gave her my details but she never contacted me.

I am not looking for any reward or acclaim but it would have been nice for her to phone to say ‘thank you’.

I am an old-fashioned person who likes to show my appreciation.

It makes you wonder whether it is worth being honest all the time.
