I AM writing to thank and congratulate Halton Council for including me in something truly special on Monday, January 18.

While other motorists may have sat there cursing the unusually long commute home, I personally was made up to be part of the world record attempt to shut as many roads as possible in one place at one time.

As a result of this another world record was attempted – most number of teas ruined in any one borough.

Some might say this wasn’t all to Halton Council’s credit as there were other factors involved – cars broken down, tunnels shut – but I like to think my council tax is well spent to allow the tremendous forethought and planning that went into this, making it no fluke.

My journey home from Preston Brook to Widnes is usually a boring 25 minutes maximum drive but last Monday I got to experience first-hand the whole of our communities coming together to marvel at nearly every road on the way full of bumper-to-bumper brilliance for a full two hours.

Our glorious part of the world comes in for some stick at times, so fair play to this latest round of road closures.

It makes us feel so valued.

From me and thousands like me, Halton Council we salute you.

Will Thompson, Borrowdale Road, Widnes

A Halton Council spokesman said: “There was a collision on the Widnes side of the bridge opposite West Bank school at 3.30pm.

“One of the cars needed to be towed away, which happened around 5pm. But by this time Runcorn was badly congested.

“The situation was made worse because the Wallasey tunnel was closed due to an incident, so traffic was diverted over the bridge.

“Also there were lane closures in Knowsley around the A56/A5300 Knowsley Expressway, which compounded the problem.”
