FURTHER to my letter in the World last week about the new green bin charges, I wish to correct Halton Council.
The people who paid £30, including the extra £5 surcharge for their green bins were not informed by council staff of the Sure Start to Later Life Team assistance.
This was because council staff did not receive an e-mail about it until many days after the collection of many additional five pounds had been made by many people mainly of elderly age.
I say to Halton Council now, do the honourable act and refund the £5 surcharge to all these people.
I have spoken with pensioners who paid the £30 and state categorically that they were not given any alternative but to pay the full amount.
How could staff tell our ratepayers when they had yet to receive the e-mail from council HQ?
