I LOVE Christmas but it really annoys me to see so much greed.

Why do people shop as though they are preparing for a siege?

Next week, queues will be down the aisles as people stock up with tons of food they will probably throw away. Supermarkets are only closed for one day.

Surely you don’t need to buy that much? Spare a thought for people who are struggling and depend on Halton’s foodbanks to survive.

There are also many pensioners facing financial difficulties who are too proud to ask for help.

By all means celebrate the festivities, but don’t fall into the seasonal trap. TV adverts imply you can only be happy and enjoy yourself if you gorge on a gargantuan feast of food.

Spending precious time with your family and friends is much more rewarding.
