I READ in the World about Halton Council having to cut £42 million off its budget.
Council leader Rob Polhill said they were doing everything they could to find savings.
Can I make a suggestion?
Why don’t you switch off the street lights on all our side roads at midnight?
We obviously need to keep our main roads lit but we don’t need small streets and cul-de-sacs lit up in the early hours.
Just imagine what fuel this could save if it was done across the whole of Widnes and Runcorn?
They already turn off the lights on some of the Expressways in Runcorn from midnight until 6am.
