Widnes Vikings to set up shop in Tesco

WITH plans for the 2013 Super League season already well underway, the Vikings is delighted to announce news of an exciting new retail facility in the Widnes branch of supermarket giant, Tesco.

Ever keen to engage with the local neighbourhood, the Vikings will set up its own in-store retail facility in Tesco’s ‘state of the art’ town centre store over the next few months.

The impressive Tesco Extra store on Lugsdale Road opened its doors in March 2012 and in doing so, became Halton’s biggest ever supermarket. Vikings fans will soon be able to buy Vikings merchandise from Tesco Widnes whilst doing their regular weekly shop.

Vikings Chief Executive Julie Gaskell said:“The landscape of Halton is benefiting massively from its ongoing regeneration, and its residents have far more choice than ever now in leisure and retail.

“Making the clubs retail offer available to more people will help drive revenue and create awareness. This is as much about getting our players involved and showing people the great work we do in the community.”

Tesco Extra Store Manager Ian Brougham added:“Both Tesco and the Vikings have similar core values and a determination to work with and help their communities. “At Tesco, the philosophy behind “Every Little Helps” is at the very heart of everything it does. It's not just a marketing slogan – it's what makes the company different.

“From day one at the Widnes store, we have prided ourselves on our relationship with the local community and our intention to give them what they want has never wavered. “We are delighted to have the Vikings on board, they will add great value and the whole team are really excited about working with them in the future.”
