Having fought off the attempts of many others to secure his services, the Vikings are today delighted to announce the signing of hooker Scott Moore from St Helens on a three-year deal from 2012.
In 2004, aged just 16, Moore made his first senior appearance for Saints and in doing so became the youngest ever player to debut in Super League, a record that still remains intact. As a junior, he represented England at Under 15, 16 and 17s level before making his full international debut in 2009. To cap an excellent season, he was later unveiled as a member of the 2009 Engage Super League Dream Team.
Described as a player with outstanding ability and a natural footballing brain, the 23 year-old has a wealth of top-flight experience, gained at not only St Helens, but also at Castleford Tigers and Huddersfield Giants where he spent extended loan periods in previous seasons. Understandably, Vikings Head Coach Denis Betts is thrilled to welcome Scott on board; “In my opinion, he is definitely one of the best hookers in Super League and for somebody so young, he has a tremendous amount of first team experience under his belt.
“Scott has regularly played at the highest level and competed in the play-offs, a Grand Final, a Challenge Cup final and on the international stage. Having sampled experiences such as these, he’ll be hungry for more of the same and his appetite to succeed will be infectious to all of those around him.
“To recruit a player of his pedigree is another massive step-forward for the club and I’m certain he’ll be the backbone of the team for many a year.”
Moore is the Vikings thirteenth new recruit ahead of their return to the 2012 Super League competition. He joins Ben Cross, Hep Cahill, Shaun Briscoe, Patrick Ah Van, Ben Davies, Lloyd White, Chris Dean, Frank Winterstein, Willie Isa, Jon Clarke, Rhys Hanbury and Anthony Watts in signing for the club.
Earlier this week, Scott was also named in the 22-man England Knights squad to take on France at Leigh Sports Village on Saturday, October 15 (3.00pm).
