Widnes Vikings sign Anthony Sullivan

WIDNES Vikings have appointed Anthony Sullivan as their coach and player development manager.

Before joining the Vikings, the ex-Hull KR, St Helens and Cardiff RU winger held the title of regional talent coach for the RFL and he brings a wealth of professional experience with him, gained both on and off the pitch.

Former dual-code international Sullivan is relishing his latest challenge.

“It’s a tracksuit and trainers type position in a practical environment which suits me down to the ground and that was one of the main attractions that led to me accepting the job," he said.

"My role will see me supporting and mentoring the coaches who will be working on the clubs Scholarship programme, Service Areas and Player Development pathways, while also getting out and about in the community and helping as many coaches across as many age groups as possible.

“It’s an exciting time to be involved at the Vikings given their return to the top-flight and further to this, it’s a great opportunity for not only the club but also the sport of rugby league and everybody involved in it, throughout the area.

"Although I’ll be readily introducing my own ideas, these can only compliment and enhance the great structures and practices that are already in place.”

Commenting on his appointment, Head of Youth Performance Phil Finney said; “I’m delighted to welcome an individual of Anthony’s quality into the youth set-up at the Vikings.

"His role will encompass coach development within both this club and our affiliated community clubs, to further support the already hard-working individuals involved there.

“The opportunity to recruit people of Anthony’s pedigree doesn’t happen too often and we’ve no doubt he will prove himself to be a pivotal member of the backroom team.”
