PUPILS from five junior schools across Widnes have been kitted out in black and white today to get behind the Widnes Vikings in the run up to their Northern Rail Cup final against Batley Bulldogs at Bloomfield Road, Blackpool, on Sunday.
The idea is the brainchild of sisters Ellie and Rossi Walsh-O’Neill, aged 6 and 10, respectively, who are both avid Widnes Vikings fans.
Their mother, Helen Walsh-O’Neill explained: “Ellie and Rossi have always loved the Vikings and they organised a similar day last year when Widnes were heading for Blackpool.
“It was very successful and we hope it will be again and help the team to once again bring back the Northern Rail Cup back to Widnes.
“The pair have rubbed shoulders with a number of celebrities in the last few years as a way of getting support for the Widnes cause including singer Bev Knight, former Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed and members of the Coronation Street and Emmerdale casts.”
Tickets will be available on the day at Bloomfield Road (4.00pm kick-off). Live coverage will be on Sky Sports 3 from 3.30pm.
Three sides of the stadium will be used for the match with the East Stand currently under construction pending the entry of Blackpool FC into the Premiership.
