Potter stars descend on Big Apple

New York went potty for Potter as Daniel Radcliffe and co hit town for the latest premiere in the film series.

The young stars of the movie mingled with hundreds of fans who had gathered outside the Ziegfeld Theatre before heading in for the showing.

Frasier star Kelsey Grammer and comedian Denis Leary were among the New York elite who turned up to catch an early glimpse of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Daniel was joined on the red carpet by co-stars Rupert Grint and Emma Watson. Watching on was an enthusiastic and noisy crowd.

Some came dressed as characters from the Potter franchise, while others held aloft posters and slogans declaring their love for the cast.

Director David Yates said being out and about with the young stars was akin to being around a rock band.

"It is like travelling with the Beatles - it is crazy," he said.

But he praised the way that the young actors dealt with the attention.
