We are a successful 11-19 mixed Catholic Comprehensive College, which is very proud of the students we help to form. We strive to educate the whole child, and in doing so develop young men and women ready to take up the challenge of making a purposeful contribution to society whilst living out their roles as responsible Christian citizens. This goal remains central to our Mission as a Catholic College, where we nurture the God-given gifts and talents of the students entrusted to our care. We continually strive to realise the challenge of our College motto to find 'Christ within us all'.
As a large comprehensive, we are committed to developing learning experiences that meet the needs of students of all abilities. The virtue of being a large College is that it enables us to offer a breadth and diversity in our curriculum which is the envy of many other schools. In addition, the fact that we can often offer more than one course in the same curriculum area allows us to better meet the preferred learning styles of different students. Our Specialisms in the Arts and Applied Learning provide us with enhanced experiences in these areas, which impact across the curriculum. Students with additional learning needs make very good progress. Academic outcomes for students are improving rapidly, with record results achieved earlier this year.
At St. Mary's we offer our students many learning experiences beyond the classroom, and this is recognised as a key strength of the College. This involves curriculum enrichment experiences, performances in music and drama events, leisure and sporting activities focused on healthy lifestyles, including competitive sports teams, an extensive Duke of Edinburgh programme at all levels and opportunities for service to the College and wider community. The spiritual development of our students is supported by a full-time lay Chaplain, and involvement in daily prayer, regular liturgies and retreat experiences.
