WIDNES Vikings half back Joe Mellor wants the club to 'right the wrongs' of last week's defeat against Huddersfield Giants when travelling to face Wakefield Trinity on Saturday.

Beaten by the Giants on home soil, Vikings co-captain believes the side can improve hugely when travelling to Wakefield.

"It wasn’t a great performance, especially in the first half,” he said.

"In the back end of that second half, we showed what we can do when we get in the opposition’s half.

"We know what we’ve need to improve on, and its pretty simple really - its keeping hold of the ball.

"When we get in good field position, we’re playing and defending well. It’s going to be a big ask this weekend but we’re looking forward to it.”

Mellor crossed for another try against the Giants, making that three tries in the Club's opening six games.

Although satisfied with his personal performances, the half-back says he'd happily swap those individual successes for more competition points next to the Vikings' name.

"I think I’ve started the season well. But then again, I want to win games and that’s what we all want to do,” he said.

"We’ve only won two games up to now, and it’s not what we want, so hopefully we can get things back on track this week."

The test for Joe and the Vikings is a significant one, as they take on one of Super League's in form teams in Wakefield Trinity.

Mellor says that the squad are working hard to be at their best ahead of Saturday's big game.

"Wakefield just seem to be getting better each year,” he said.

“It’s going to be a tough contest for us, but we’re working hard this week and we want to do the job against them.

Mellor was quick to praise the Club's supporters for their role in 2018 so far, and says the players need their support more than ever when they take to the field this weekend.

"They’re going to be massive. They’ve been good for us up to now, especially in our home games,” he said.

"It’s great to see they are there every week and hopefully they can get down to Wakefield and support us again."
