ONE more win will do it.

That is the view of Widnes Vikings boss Denis Betts after watching his side withstand a late rally to see off Castleford Tigers.

Vikings are in eighth spot, going into Thursday’s home game against Wigan, five points ahead of ninth placed Hull KR.

With five games to go before the split, Widnes look in a good spot to avoid dropping into the relegation battle that comes with finishing in the bottom four.

“It was a win that we needed,” Betts said.

“If we can one or two more games we can climb the table a bit more. We’re not relying on others losing now to stay in the eight.

“One more win should secure our place in the top eight and two more could push us into the six.

“I thought we were fantastic across the board. This is a really tough place to win.”

Vikings now entertain Wigan on Thursday night in a game that the club have been selling discounted tickets at £10 across the board in order to boost the gate.

Vikings half-back Tom Gilmore has signed a new two-year deal at the club.

Gilmore, 22, a real success story of the Vikings youth structure has played on the international stage with England Youth, has made 17 Super League appearances following his debut in 2014, as well as impressing on a loan spell at London Broncos last year.

Gilmore, signed his new contract which will mean he stays a Viking until the end of 2018 season.

He said: “My plan has always been to stay at Widnes.

“My ambition is to become the first choice scrum-half here and be a part of the club as it moves forward in the future.

“I am enjoying my time at my home town club and look forward to developing my game over the next two years”

Betts added: “Tom is really talented young man with a mature head on his shoulders and has huge potential to become a successful player here at Widnes.”
