WIDNES fell away in the second half as they went down 30-10 to First Utility Super League leaders Hull at the KC Stadium.

The Vikings went in at half-time just two points adrift but a four-try burst in the space of just 13 second half minutes saw the home side stamp their authority.

It was sweet revenge for Lee Radford's men who were humbled 46-6 in the reverse fixture at the Select Security Stadium back in March.

Since then the two clubs' roles have been pretty much reversed. Widnes are now the side fighting to avoid the Qualifiers while Hull must be eyeing a trip to Old Trafford.

The Vikings enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges and it came as no surprise when Rhys Hanbury evaded a Marc Sneyd tackle to give his side a 4-0 lead on eight minutes.

Winger Stefan Marsh went off with a calf injury forcing coach Denis Betts into a backline reshuffle.

Charly Runciman moved out to the left flank and went close to increasing Widnes's lead on the back of a sweeping passing movement but he was held up over the line.

Hull got a piggy-back downfield from a couple of cheap penalties and on 21 minutes stand-off Carlos Tuimavave gave his team the lead when he sliced through from close range.

The Airlie Birds continued to press helped by some handling errors and indiscipline by the Vikings.

Hull winger Fetuli Talanoa had a try chalked off for a forward pass so the score remained 6-4 at the break.

Multiple repeat sets on the Widnes line early in the second half eventually saw impressive centre Kirk Yeaman burrow in from dummy-half with Sneyd adding the extras.

It was now one way traffic and prop Josh Bowden crashed over from an inside ball and he was quickly followed over the whitewash by hooker Danny Houghton after the Vikings defence made a hash of dealing with a Sneyd kick.

The try of the match came from the restart when Hull prop Scott Taylor made a break from his own tryline before feeding the fast-supporting Jamie Shaul who raced 60 metres to the posts.

To their credit, the Vikings defended manfully in the last quarter of the match and scored a fine consolation try when Kevin Brown, Hanbury and Runciman combined to send Chris Dean to the line with Hanbury converting.

But it's victories Widnes need if they're to avoid dropping into the bottom four.
