BUOYED by their first Super League win in nine run-outs Widnes Vikings go to Super League leaders Hull FC with something of a weight lifted off their shoulders.

But they know they have not turned the corner yet and there is plenty of hard work to be done in the remaining seven games of the regular season if they are to avoid dropping into the Middle 8s again.

They are currently four points clear of ninth-placed Salford, but with the trip to form-side Hull followed by a journey to on-song Castleford and then a home encounter with Wigan they will have to work hard to consolidate.

Assistant coach Brett Hodgson said: "For us it is about building on the Huddersfield win and we are going away to the form team in the comp at the moment.

"We have got some things that we still need to work on, it is not like we have turned a massive corner yet.

"We have got to keep working and pushing to break down a team that is flying high."

There may be a degree of old scores being settled as Hull’s 46-6 loss at Widnes – the game in which coach Lee Radford was locked out of the dressing room post-match – was the catalyst for the Humbersiders turning their season around and have only lost one of their 12 matches since then.

Hodgson added: "They are the form team of the comp – their halves are playing very well off the back of a massive go-forward.

"It is a huge contrast from where both teams were last time we met. I don’t think either side will be using that as a measure.

"We are way off from where we were back then, but are still confident in our own ability that when we do the right thing, and go through the right processes, that we can turn everyone."

All came through unscathed with debutant Jack Buchanan, who hasn’t played for five weeks, better for the run-out.

Patrick Ah Van is suspended for one more week.
