THE Dacia Magic Weekend is now only days away and as St James’ Park, Newcastle prepares to open its doors to the Rugby League spectacular for a second consecutive year, the Vikings are busy delivering a final push for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.

Back in January, Widnes Vikings announced the launch of the ‘Tackling Cancer...#ImOnIt’ campaign, an initiative aimed at collecting £10 donations from supporters in exchange for their name being incorporated into the fabric of the Clubs special edition 2016 Magic Weekend Jersey.

The initiative was hugely successful with an allocation of 3000 names completed in no time at all. The campaign received celebrity endorsements from the likes of Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Kevin Sinfield alongside all members of the Robson family including Sir Bobby’s wife, Lady Elsie Robson.

With further donations made by the Vikings and kit supplier O’Neill’s Irish Sportswear from the sale of replica Magic Weekend jerseys the total donation figure currently stands at £38,120 and rising.

This significant donation will assist the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation to continue the fantastic work that it carries out, not only in the treatment and care of Cancer patients but also in the research it funds both nationally and internationally.

Vikings Director Brian O’Connor commented: “I am thrilled with the response of our supporters to the ‘Tackling Cancer...#ImOnIt’ campaign. The success of this entire project is down to them and their generosity.

“As a Club we are immensely proud to be working alongside such a fantastic charity partner, and one that is so fitting for the Magic Weekend in Newcastle.

“Likewise, our supporters should share this pride as it is their involvement, enthusiasm and generous donations that have helped us reach almost £60,000 for the foundation which Sir Bobby described as ‘his last and greatest team’.”

A limited amount of stock is now available to purchase from the Vikings Superstore, located within Tesco Extra, Widnes and will be sold on a first come first served basis.
