WIDNES Vikings are sitting pretty at the top of the Super League after four rounds, but boss Denis Betts is not getting carried away.

Vikings aim to retain their lofty position when they entertain struggling Hull KR on Friday night.

But despite wins over last year’s top four sides Leeds and Huddersfield, Betts is keeping his side’s feet on the ground - with the Hull KR clash a prelude to a massive March which features a home game with big-spending Hull, followed by derby clashes against Wigan, Warrington and St Helens.

Betts said: “There is no euphoria or feeling that anything has been achieved.

"We know exactly where we are.

“The players know that nothing gets given out in the first month or the second, but it is about being consistent."

Hull KR sacked coach Chris Chester last week after a win-less start to the campaign.

The Robins are also struggling with a lengthy injury list, but having seen their plucky display against Saints last Friday Widnes will not be under-estimating them.

Betts said: "We can’t take them lightly – even with all the stuff that is flying around with what is happening with their coach and their team.

"They are not bad, they have got some decent players even if they are struggling at the moment with injuries.

"I am not focusing on them, we have to control the things we can control, our preparation and our own performances. Get our energy right, our enthusiasm and defensive patterns and we are going to be hard to beat.

"It is about putting our standard out there and let others reach to us.

"These next two weeks are tough as it is easy to think it is going to fall nice for us because we are at home, but the group is pretty strong at the moment."

Vikings' game on Friday against Hull KR kicks off at 8pm.
