RHYS Hanbury crossed for four tries as Widnes took a big step towards securing their Super League future with a 46-4 demolition of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats at Belle Vue.

Hanbury wasn't the only man in black & white to excel with Kevin Brown, Lloyd White, Aaron Heremaia and Charly Runciman leading the opposition a merry dance.

Hanbury went close to scoring with his first touch of the ball but was cornered by the Wildcats cover defence.

However, it was a sign of things to come.

The Wildcats briefly threatened the Vikings line but Denis Betts' men hit the front on 12 minutes when skipper Brown sent Runciman clear and despite being half tackled by fullback Kevin Locke, the Australian found White in support to score just to the left of the posts with Danny Tickle's goalling.

A flowing move up the left involving Brown, Runciman and Patrick Ah Van saw the latter put Hanbury over with an inside pass and there was a strong feeling the writing was already on the wall for the home side.

On the half hour Jacob Miller compounded his error of knocking on under his own posts by missing a one-on-one tackle from the subsequent scrum allowing Hanbury in for the softest of second tries with Tickles's conversion making it 16-0.

Almost straight from the restart, Widnes were in again as White dummied through from inside his own half before sending Heremaia scampering to the line.

A 22-0 half-time lead was pretty handy and it didn't take the Vikings long to get the scoreboard moving again after the interval as Hanbury crossed for his third try from Brown's neat grubber kick.

Brown scored a try of his own five minutes later, dummying his way over on last tackle to make it 34-0.

The home pulled a try back on 53 minutes when winger Lee Smith squeezed over but it was brief respite.

Hanbury raced 60 metres for his fourth score from Chris Dean's inside pass after he'd fielded a Tim Smith chip through.

Widnes's final try came as Paddy Flynn evaded numerous ineffective tackles before crossing by the posts for a solo effort.

Tickle finished with five goals and Ah Van with two.
