DESPITE the big win at Bradford on Sunday, Vikings' coach Denis Betts knows there's still plenty of unfinished business in The Qualifiers.

This weekend, Widnes travel to face a Wakefield side who will feel a victory will move them very close to Super League survival.

The Wildcats last two games of the campaign are against underdogs Halifax and Sheffield. So a positive result against the Vikings will give them a likely 10-point haul which could be enough for a crucial Top 3 spot.

Having been Super League's whipping boys for most of the regular season, Wakefield have had a major overhaul of playing personnel and brought in legendary coach Brian Smith from Australia.

Their upturn in fortunes has come as no surprise to Betts who is well aware of the dangers lurking in the Willdcats' ranks.

He said "They're a really good side.

"They've changed a lot. They've got themselves a little bit more structure and they look like they've got some drive defensively.

"They were without Michael Sio against Hull KR at the weekend who's a good player and they've got a big forward pack that's working hard for each other now.

"You've also got to stop (scrum-half) Tim Smith doing what he wants. He's won man-of-the-match in a Grand Final - he can play.

"Jacob Miller has got a terrific step which can cause you lots of problems and Kevin Locke was looking really confident at the weekend. His confidence has been knocked about a bit this year but you can tell the way he moves he's a good player. He can cause damage.

"It's a big game for them. They're on their home ground and it's a big challenge for us.

"An away win would probably take us into our last two home games needing one win to secure our Super League place.

"Our target was to be the best team in this group and I think we can still achieve that."

Competition leaders Hull KR had to fight hard to overcome Wakefield at the KC Lightstream Stadium on Sunday before eventually taking the spoils 20-18.

As part of his preparation for his side's visit to Belle Vue, Betts has reviewed that game on tape and reckons the Wildcats can consider themselves unlucky not to have picked up the points.

He added "Wakefield were the better side against Hull KR.

"Even right at the death they could have won it but they bombed a chance.

"Hull KR just hung in the game and never really looked like winning it - until they did!"

The Vikings enjoyed two wins over Wakefield during the regular season.

A 58-16 walloping back in Round 2 at the Select Security Stadium was followed by a less convincing, but still comfortable, 30-18 victory in Yorkshire at the end of May.

Coach Betts has reported no further injury problems arising from the 56-12 win over Bradford Bulls and may be tempted to go with the same 17.
