WIDNES Vikings head coach Denis Betts is looking for his team to be ‘fearless’ when they visit the Provident Stadium to face Bradford on Sunday.

The Vikings’ boss freely admits that anxiety can be a factor in The Qualifiers given what’s at stake.

But after suffering a nervy 12-8 home defeat to Hull KR last time out, he’s looking for his team to get straight back to winning ways against the Bulls.

He said: “Our job as a coaching team is to help keep the anxiety under control and promote a fearless approach in the way we play.

“We’re constantly reinforcing to the players that if we hit our performance targets, we’ll get where we need to be.

“I still believe we’re the best team in this group.

“I don’t think the quality of the games has been great so far, but the drama has been there for all to see.

“I felt the Hull KR game was one that got away because we were the better team.

“Once they got in front they became really hard to catch because they defended really well and it was hard to open up in the conditions.

“We can’t let it affect us moving forward.”

Already without forwards Macgraff Leuluai and Willie Isa for the rest of the campaign, the Vikings suffered another blow when Stefan Marsh injured a foot against Hull KR.

He will be replaced on the wing by Patrick Ah Van on Sunday and his participation in the rest of The Qualifiers is rated doubtful.
