BUOYED by their win over Catalans, which gave them a faint hope of qualifying for the Super 8s, Vikings face a massive challenge at Wigan on Friday night.

Denis Betts’ men will be massive underdogs to topple the Warriors on home turf, but the Vikings head coach knows only too well that a defeat will end Widnes’s Top 8 ambitions.

Vikings are currently 10th with two games to play – but are three points behind Catalans and Hull FC.

It means that Vikings have to get at least three points from their last two games and hope that other results go their way to have any hope of avoiding the qualifiers group which sees the bottom four of Super League play against the leading quartet from the Championship.

Betts insisted: “We’re not giving up the fight yet.

“We need to show some determination and maybe get a little bit of luck at the weekend.

“But we still believe that can happen and we got some confidence from our win over Catalans on Sunday.

“It’s a huge challenge that we’ve talked about.

“But we’ve got a win we needed and we’ve got a bit of belief in us, so you never know.”

Vikings look set to be without centre Stefan Marsh who was injured in the win over Catalans.

Declan Hulme, Willie Isa and Matt Whitley are among the contenders for Marsh’s spot in the three-quarter line.
