CHRIS Bridge will be moving to Widnes Vikings at the end of the season.

The 31-year-old centre or half back is currently in his Testimonial campaign with Warrington Wolves, whom he joined from Bradford Bulls in 2005.

Bridge, who has gained Ireland and England international caps during his Wolves career, has scored three tries and kicked nine goals in 17 appearances this season.

He was a member of Wolves' Challenge Cup winning team at Wembley in 2009, but missed out on the final in 2010 and 2012 through injury.

Bridge was a key figure in Wolves' League Leaders' Trophy campaign of 2011 and tributes have been paid to him by Joel Monaghan and Chris Hicks - Wolves' top try scorers in seasons 2009 to 2014 - for his ability to put wingers over for scores.

He will be joining Vikings on a two-year deal and so far for Wolves has racked up 228 appearances, 107 tries, 311 goals and one drop goal.

Head coach Denis Betts said: “Chris is a great squad acquisition for us. He can strike and score tries. He has some valuable experience playing in Challenge Cup Finals and Grand Finals.

"He knows how to close out big games and tight games and has a fantastic ‘big game mentality’. Chris’ experience will serve to strengthen our squad. It is really exciting for the Vikings to have someone of Chris’ quality joining our ranks.”

Former Warrington teammates Jon Clarke and Brett Hogson are on Betts' coaching staff and so Bridge will be in familiar company when he makes the switch.

Bridge said: “I am really looking forward to playing for Widnes Vikings.

"I’ve spoken to Denis Betts and to Brett Hodgson and I am looking forward to the new challenge.

"It will be great to play alongside Kevin Brown and Rhys Hanbury and it sounds like there are some exciting plans to mix things up a bit next year. From what I’ve seen the style of play will suit me. The centres seem to get a lot of ball so I am looking forward to getting stuck in."

He added: "I am fully committed to Warrington Wolves for the rest of this year. I am working hard to get back to 100% so I can make a big contribution in the games we have got left.

"I am hoping to go out with a bang after 10 seasons with the club and I am hoping to get a couple more winners' medals before I start my new and exciting challenge with Widnes Vikings.”

Wolves' head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith said: "I'd like to thank Chris for giving great service to Warrington for over 10 years.

"Chris has played his part in some special moments at Warrington and will be remembered fondly for the skilful displays he has regularly delivered."
