AFTER two creditable but losing performances on the road against top four opposition, Vikings have to dust themselves down quickly for Sunday’s visit of league leaders Leeds.

They were within a matter of seconds from completing the double against Warrington, which would have propelled them four places up the table.

But alas Widnes were sunk by a late Joel Monaghan try to leave them two from bottom.

Coach Denis Betts said: “We’re 20 seconds off being seventh in the table and then everybody thinks everything is going really well.

“It’s that kind of season and that kind of table at the moment.

“We’re playing really well but we’re also coming up against some good sides who are playing all right as well.

“It’s about keeping that motivation there when we haven’t been getting the rewards.”

Although the bald statistics show a team still in search of their first win away from home, Betts does not see much wrong with what they have been doing.

The table is so tightly clustered that a win at the weekend could see them move from 11th to the top eight.

“You can’t argue with our intensity, effort and energy and I think our supporters can see that and that’s what keeps them behind us.

“Put two or three wins together and you can really climb quickly in this table.

“When you look at where we’ve been so far, it’s not a bad second half of the year especially if we can hang onto our home form,” Betts said.

Vikings came through the Warrington game unscathed and have Patrick Ah Van and Gil Dudson back in the mix for the visit of the high flying Widnes.

The game at Select Security Stadium kicks off at 3pm. The referee is Phil Bentham.
