NEW recruiit Danny Galea will make his Widnes Vikings debut against North Wales Crusaders on Sunday at the Select Security Stadium.
Galea, who joined from Canterbury Bulldogs is in the 25 man squad, while trialist Liam Hulme will get another opportunity to impress against the Championship side.
Betts said: “Danny has trained really hard and I’m really excited to see him play. We’ve looked at him lots of times on video but on Sunday we will get a chance to see him in the flesh.
“He’s a player that is really, really solid and he’ll give us plenty this year. He’s settled in well with the group and I know he’s looking forward to getting out there.
“Liam will also get another chance. We want to have another look at him and Sunday is a good game to do that.
“We expect it to be pretty tough against North Wales, but that is exactly what you want out of a friendly game.”
Betts will make full use of his squad but Adam Lawton (elbow), Pat Ah Van (calf) will miss out as they recover from their respective injuries. Grant Gore and Lloyd White, who have longer term injuries, are still on the comeback trail. Skipper Jon Clarke will be rested, with Rhodri Lloyd still in training after only joining the club this week.
