Nelson Mandela took his long-awaited World Cup bow at tonight's final at Soccer City.

The former South Africa president waved to the near-85,000 crowd while being wheeled around on a golf cart at the end of the closing ceremony in Johannesburg.

On the field, Spain named an unchanged line-up from their semi-final win over Germany, meaning Liverpool's Fernando Torres was again left out at the expense of Barcelona youngster Pedro, while Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas was also alongside him on the bench.

Holland welcomed back Nigel de Jong and Gregory van der Wiel, who were suspended for the semi-final at the expense of Khalid Boulahrouz and Demy de Zeeuw as both sides looked to secure a first ever world title.
