West Bank Bears U’16s 30 v 12 Burtonwood Bulldogs.

West Bank returned to action for the first time since July and they would be excused for being a little rusty, however you wouldn’t have known they hadn’t played for over a month. From the first whistle Bank dominated with ruthless defence and sharp attacking that saw three players all cross twice. Doubles came from Tom Dempsey, Jack Bond and Ben Salter with Dempsey converting three goals.

This was a good team showing, but strong performances came from Aaron Naughton, Dylan Bennett and George Nuttall.

Also there were impressive debuts from Lewis Scott and Karl Glover.

West Bank Bears U'15s 22 v 6 Runcorn: On a day of derbies the Bears saw themselves against an ever improving and fiercely competitive Runcorn side. Revenge was on the mind with Runcorn comprehensively beating the Bears earlier this season and they got off to a great start with the Bank scoring after only 5 mins to take a 6-0 lead.

A great forward drive by debutant Luke Sabatini gave Bank perfect field position, which they duly took advantage off when Liam Smith scored out wide.10-0 at Half Time.

Hoping to carry on and increase the score line, West Bank continually pressed in Runcorn's half but gave the opposition a huge advantage when Sabbatini was a judged to have elbowed a player on the floor and a red card was brandished.

With that extra player Runcorn found themselves back in the game with a quick play off the ball and a dart from dummy half to score under the posts. 10-6.

West bank needed a positive response and things were to get harder as West Bank were reduced to 11 players for a late tackle but that wasn't to stop the resilience of the team.

Great forward play from captain Jamie Benson, Kyle Hayes and Dylan Thomas gave the team the position they needed to be in and with quick thinking by kyle Hayes down the blind side saw Ellis Stokes sneak in at the corner. The Touchline conversion made by Leon Hough extended the lead to 16-6.

With confidence restored, West Bank were regularly finding holes and breaking through gaps with smart running by Hough and Jacob Melvin and were duly rewarded when Dylan Thomas went over to seal a great win and again Hough converting from an acute angle. MoM - closely fought contest with Hough, Hayes and Sabbatini all staking a claim, but captain for the day Jamie Benson took the spoils.

Hindley U10's 32 v 24 West Bank Bears.

After the great start to the season last week with a convincing win against Thatto Heath, today was a tough defeat to the Hindley side. Short numbers meant the Bears were on the back foot from the start.

The first try came from Hindley gave an indication of the type of game in hand. The Bears were doing their best to hold off the Hindley attack and it payed of when at a turn over the ball went out to Lewis Talbot, in fine form at the moment, bursting out wide creating the gap in great fashion, leaving a 20 yard chase to side step and drop down for the first of the Bears tries.

The conversion, taken by Lewis went over and the score even again! Hindley found a gap out wide and made a dart to grab their second, this conversion was missed. The Bears were finding the going tough with no numbers to allow substitutions but from a play the ball a very confident Conner Burgess saw him ploughing through Hindley's attempt to tackle him and a 30 metre sprint saw him over for the Bears second! The conversion went over and the whistle went. Great first half from both teams.

The Bears were showing great character under the immense pressure from a full strength Hindley squad. Going into the second half with the lead was unexpected but justified.

The start of the second half saw Hindley start to overwhelm West Bank and crossed for two more scores. A few strong tackles from both teams seemed to give the Bears a second wind and some great passing from flank to flank, opened up the Hindley side enough to leave Conner Burgess with 2 Hindley defenders to pass. Going straight through at pace and over for the try, the conversion went over and the gap now narrowed. The Bears could see the win again. However time was against them and 5 minutes later the whistle went to end the game. A very valiant effort from this young Bears side. A hard fought win for Hindley. Great game.

Today’s Man of the match as chosen by The Hindley coaches was Jack Krause, Great game from him today.

TEAM: Thomas Barnard, Jack Krause, Jordan Woodward, Kyle Buckley, Jason Saddler, Ben Abbott, Joshua Myler, Conner Burgess, Aiden Stewart, Lewis Talbot.

A huge pat on the back for today’s performance, great courage and determination from each and every one.
