WIDNES made league leaders West Park battle all the way to keep their unbeaten record intact.
The red and black youngsters started strongly, tackling everything the St Helens side threw at them.
The back row of Watson, Clare and Cooke were in the thick of the action from the first whistle.
Crunching tackles from man-of-the-match Reynolds and Duggan set the tone.
Hutton went close with a chargedown, unfortunately the ball bouncing the wrong way and into touch.
Widnes took the lead midway through the half when a Julienne break in midfield was took on by Cooke and Argent, resulting in West Park conceding a penalty which Tom Beech made full use of by kicking the three points.
West Park looked like they were going to score an excellent try but a superb tackle at the corner flag by Argent denied the hosts.
With the last play of the half West Park scored from a five-yard scrum to leave the Wids trailing 7-3.
Three minutes into the second half West Park extended their lead with a penalty goal and two further tries that put the game out of Widnes' reach.
Widnes came back at West Park, Reynolds being held up over the try line but Widnes did get over the line for a well deserved consolation try by Hutton.
The Widnes coaching staff were extremely pleased with the effort and commitment shown by the Widnes lads, who welcome Rochdale to Heath Road on Sunday 2pm kick off.
