Runcorn Linnets F.C. are pleased to be helping to support learning in the Grange School, Runcorn. As part of a new initiative the Linnets are providing match day programmes to encourage reading amongst boys in the school.
The initiative was the bright idea of Rob Talbot, the Learning Co-ordinator for Year 9, who is making football programmes and magazines available to students during form time.
With English results nationally showing a gap between the performance of boys and girls, new initiatives are being created to try and narrow the gap.
Students will have access to a collection of programmes where they can not only get up to date with the latest match action but they can be used as an effective example of writing professional reports and reviews to any budding young journalists.
The club are particularly encouraging the boys in the school to spend more time reading which will not only help student’s attainment in English but ultimately it will support all the curriculum subjects.
The Linnets already have a connection to the school with students from The Grange playing in squads from the junior teams right up to their youth side.
