SPRINTER Darren Scott has scooped three gold medals in the European Masters Championships in Hungary – setting four new records and breaking two of his own.
The 41-year-old former painter and decorator from Runcorn beat the existing 100m championship record, which had stood for 23 years.
His time of 10.81s also meant he notched up a new Scottish record.
But Darren, a personal trainer at Total Fitness in Chester, was not content with just one medal, and went on to win the 200m event in 21.64s - making him the British champion in his age group.
He said: “I’d broken the British record only about 10 days earlier at an event in Sheffield,” he said. “But I was on top form in Hungary and managed to bring it down by another second.”
To complete his outstanding performance Darren was part of the 4x100m relay team which also walked away with gold and broke the existing 15-year-old British record in a time of 42.99s.
Darren’s next major event is in March next year when he will compete in the European indoor championships in Belgium.
