Fylde 7 Widnes 30.
WIDNES Colts won the Lancashire Cup with a convincing second half show against Fylde.
This second consecutive win in this competition secures a remarkable treble this season for Paul Newall’s side after winning both the league title and the League Cup.
They now face a ‘winner takes all’ clash against North East champions Middlesbrough Colts on Sunday at Wigan RUFC (4pm).
Widnes were slow out of the blocks and guilty of coughing up too much possession, and it came as no real surprise that they trailed 7-0 at half time.
But what a change after the break.
They re-shuffled their line-up and resorted to a more direct approach, getting into the faces of their opponents.
Matty Smith kicked a penalty before Jamie Clare cross for a try converted by Smith which put them in front.
When Johnny Lowe scored and Smith converted it was suddenly 17-7 to the Wids.
Another Smith penalty extended their lead before Paul McLindon showed some excellent soccer skills to kick on and collect to score a try on the hour mark.
As Fylde got more and more desperate, a quick short drop out was swooped upon by Evan Simons who raced clear to cross the line for the final try in the last minute.
Paul McLindon was selected as the TFL Solutions man of the match followed closely by Jamie Clare.
Kirkby Lonsdale 13 Widnes 12.
WIDNES came so close to achieving their promotion dream in Cumbria before losing out by the narrowest of margins.
They trailed by 10pts - nil at the break, before rallying miday through the second period to take the lead with tries from Gareth Riley and Andy McIntosh along with a conversion from Jon Hetherington.
Kirkby Lonsdale regained the lead with five minutes left with an easy penalty from in front, but there was still enough time for Widnes to get back up the field, and two long range penalty efforts went narrowly wide and the game was lost.
